“It was by far one of the holiest experiences we have had in our lives and is testimony to God’s glory and grace in an unprecedented overwhelming wave.”
This is how the glamorous couple Melinda Bam and Adriaan Bergh, both former Mr. and Miss South Africa, the birth of their little ‘miracle’, Ruach Michal Bergh, who made his appearance on March 10 this year.
“We have dreamed about this time for so long. Adriaan and I often catch ourselves staring at his blue eyes, where our own eyes just swell with emotions and the deep love, admiration and privilege we experience,” she tells Rhewal.
The couple did October last year the news that they are going to be parents is shared on social media with a series of beautiful photos in which they show off their little one’s sonar photos.
They already decided to expand their family in 2019, but say that they had several obstacles on their pregnancy journey before a fertility specialist’s caring approach turned things around for them.
Therefore, they decided to share the news about baby Ruach’s birth only with close family and friends for the time being.
“Life’s pace is so fast and technology and social media can take over so much of a person’s life. It was important for us to experience him through our own eyes and not through a screen. Time felt like it stood still without any interruptions and distractions because we were in a cocoon and nothing else mattered,” says Melinda.
Her mother, Wanda, who is also an announcer at 729 Cape Kansel, also lent a helping hand in the beginning.

“My mother came to stay with us for a week, which was so precious to me because being a mother just feels a little less intimidating when your own mother shows you the little things and gives you a hug to assure you that you are doing well. “
According to Melinda, the two families’ celebration of little Ruach’s arrival was equal to the joy the couple experienced on their wedding day.
“Our families prayed with us for the little body, so sharing with them the fulfillment of God’s promise and the answer to all of our prayers was the greatest celebration and source of joy in our family. We can’t wait for Ruach to understand how much love he has from all his family.”

Given their pregnancy journey, this new parent couple chooses to see the beauty in every experience. “Everything is nice, every stare, hush, little sigh, feeding time. Even changing diapers,” jokes Melinda.

According to her, Klein Ruach is also a mirror image of his “daddy bear”.
“He is clearly a little baby Bergh. My mother scoffs and asks if I was ever part of the whole process. At least he got my ears, but beyond that he can’t do anything for me anymore handsome don’t be,” says this broad-breasted new mother.
The responsibilities of parenthood are not something she and Adrian take lightly either.
“Being fully responsible for the well-being, development, happiness and security of such a small, fragile body is sometimes overwhelming. The knowledge that the Lord has equipped and trusted us to be able to raise Ruach according to his will is probably the greatest privilege we have ever been granted.”
Yet Melinda admits that at times it is still unreal for her and Adriaan that they have finally started this new journey.
“We experienced a miracle and consider ourselves the most blessed people to be able to call Ruach our boy. Our lives will never be the same again.”
