At least 21 areas in Pretoria have power again after a huge power outage caused when power towers fell on the N4 highway on Sunday evening.
However, approximately 32 neighborhoods in and around Pretoria and Centurion are still waiting for power supply to be restored.
“The Tshwane metro’s city manager, Johann Mettler, has sent an urgent letter to Eskom in which he asks the power supplier to urgently help with labour, materials and equipment so that power supply can be restored as soon as possible to the areas still affected by the outage. be affected,” the metro said on Tuesday.
Rhewal used to report the incident is believed to be the result of repeated looting and vandalism. According to the Tshwane Metro, three of the six towers were damaged by vandals who, among other things, stole steel from the structures.
This also resulted in the exits at Simon Vermooten and Solomon Mahlangu being closed to traffic for hours on Sunday and Monday as high voltage cables lay across the highway.
According to the metro, the city in collaboration with Eskom and other service providers will now start geo-technical studies to test the soil, dig and clean the area.
Eskom will also help with the dismantling and removal of the damaged power towers and cables.
Various design aspects are also currently being finalized before Eskom will bring the new power towers to the scene.
“The metro has also submitted an application for right of use to Sanral and Gautrans to enable technicians to work on the N4 and Solomon Mahlangury Avenue.”
