Although He was the Son, He learned what obedience is through all that He suffered. And when He reached perfection, He became the source of eternal bliss for all who obey Him. (Heb 5:8-9)
Jesus suffered the life of a vagabond, often had to endure hardships and had no home or possessions of his own. He also knows that great suffering awaits Him at the end of his life. In the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus begs his Father urgently to let the cup of suffering pass from him, but in the end he surrenders to God’s will.
Through his suffering in the world and on the cross, Jesus came to teach us what real obedience to his Father means. Because He was willing to be obedient in such a way, He is now a Source of eternal bliss for us. Through his obedience, he makes it possible for us to be God’s children.
God comes to ask this same kind of obedience from us. And through his Holy Spirit, he also enables us to walk in his footsteps.
Are you already willing to subordinate your will to God’s will? To really obey his commands even if it would mean hardship and hurt for you? If you are not yet absolutely obedient to God, this Easter may be the right time to say yes to God’s command.
Lord Jesus, it is very difficult for me to be as obedient as You, especially if it will cost me something. Thank you for helping me with that. Amen
