Neither a sevens tournament, nor a sad story for the Blitzbokke.
After the Blitzboks lost to Spain for the first time ever on Sunday morning, it is said that there are very few teams left in World Rugby’s sevens series that have not yet been able to beat the Blitzboks.
In the Singapore tournament, Spain wrote its fairy tale story with its first victory over the Blitzbokke when it won the semi-finals for the play-off place for the ninth position with 12 – 5.
After the depleted Blitzbokke, who had only nine fit players available, lost two of their three group games on Saturday and could not progress to the quarter-finals, they had a 12-5 victory over Ireland in the quarter-finals of the play-off early on Sunday morning to took ninth place.
But in the semi-finals they were forced to surrender by the Spanish.
Yes, there were mitigating circumstances with Sean Williams, Ricardo Duarttee, Tiaan Pretorius and Donovan Don on the injury list, but the skills of the team, such as their handling, poor defense and poor game discipline, are starting to stand out more and more.
In addition, the Blitzbokke could only score 55 points in six games, but conceded 60.
Marks:
Spain 12 (5): Tries: Pol Pla, Juan Ramos. Goal kick: Ramos.
South Africa 5 (5): Three: Siviwe Soyizwapi.
