The first units of the new Lexus RX have arrived in South Africa, with more expected to go on sale from June 2023.
The Japanese SUV is available in four different specifications, with prices starting just under R1.4 million for the entry-level RX 350.
What you get
The RX is available with a choice of three different engines, a turbocharged petrol unit, and two mild-hybrid setups.
In the 350, the drivetrain assumes the form of a 2.4-litre turbo-petrol powerplant which is capable of generating 205kW and 430Nm.
This gives it a top speed of 200km/h and a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 7.5 seconds.
An eight-speed gearbox is then used to transfer power to the Direct4 all-wheel drive system, resulting in an average fuel consumption figure of 8.7l/100km.
The same engine can also be found on the 350 F Sportthough this trim level will raise the price to R1,498,300 on account of its extra features and adaptive variable suspension, which is able to adjust the shock absorbers on the fly in response to varying road conditions.
A driving feature available to all versions of the car, however, are the three modes for Eco, Normal, and Sport.
As far as appearances are concerned, the RX naturally features the brand’s signature spindle grille, along with a set of “jewel-like” adaptive LED headlights, daytime running lights, and 21-inch alloy wheels.
In designing the interior, the luxury car firm made a big effort with regard to noise insulation by adding new weather strips to all the window and door linings. The hood has also been fitted with a twin lock to suppress engine vibrations, and the windows are all equipped with high-insulation glass.
The cabin itself is more spacious than before, and several components have been reworked to be more ergonomic based on customer feedback, said the automaker.
Items standard across all models include a heated multifunction sports steering wheel, heads-up display, semi-Aniline leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats with lumbar support, a Mark Levinson surround sound system, ambient lighting, a wireless charger, keyless entry and start, three-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a digital driver display, and an infotainment screen measuring at least 9.8 inches wide.
It also comes with front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, cornering assist, and adaptive cruise control.
Each purchase includes a 7-year/105,000km warranty and maintenance plan.
