We do know that the sinful man that we were was crucified with Christ, so that our sinful existence could be ended. So we are no longer slaves to sin. (Rom 6:6)
By walking together on Jesus’ way of the cross, this Easter we became part of everything that happened to Jesus on the cross. It was once again a demonstration of God’s grace and love for us. You can try to earn God’s grace by keeping the law, or you can waste his grace by sinning again because God will forgive you in the end. Unfortunately, there are few Christians who take sin seriously enough.
It is necessary that you understand God’s grace correctly: Jesus dies on the cross in your place, but you must also be willing to die, together with Him. Your natural, sinful nature should now be dead with Jesus. You must be willing to die to every sin that is still present in your life. Every time you want to sin again, remind yourself that you are actually dead to it and resist the sin in Jesus’ power.
If you have been crucified for sin, it also means that from now on you will live for Jesus. He has made you new; from now on live as God wants you to.
Lord Jesus, I am sorry that my old nature is still so lively sometimes. Help me to be truly dead to sin in my life and from now on live only for You. Amen
