An alleged serial rapist who is also suspected of armed robbery and attempted murder is behind bars.
Members of the Klipgat and Hebron police’s detective branches, visible policing units and the police’s tactical response team to Brits raided the 39-year-old suspect’s house on Klipgat on Thursday.
“The police raided the suspect’s house after receiving information about a man in possession of firearms and ammunition, who was looking for a prospective buyer,” says Lt. Col. Amanda Funani, police spokesperson in the North West.
The suspects were caught with a pistol during the raid.
During the preliminary investigation of the scene, it also came to light that the man is a suspected serial rapist who has been evading the police for two years.
“The suspect apparently targeted and raped women who were walking home from taverns in Klipgat in the early hours of the morning. According to information, he also robs his victims of their personal belongings,” says Funani.
Follow-up investigation work also led the police to a house in Mabopane, where the police came across an AK47 assault rifle, ammunition and magazines.
“The suspect is facing various charges of rape, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.”
He is expected to appear in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
