“We grew up with the songs. Our grandmothers, grandfathers, fathers and mothers played it.”
This is how Nico van Vuuren, the man behind Inspirasie Veelvoud, talks about his arrangement of the well-known and ever-popular Koos du Plessis song, “Kinders van die wind”.
Nico, who also this week won an Afri-Indie award for the best Afrikaans songwriter, is proud to introduce this song to people. Not only does he want to honor Koos du Plessis, but also to bring people from different generations together around one table.
“The melody is the same, I just took a more modern approach to the song.
“At the end of the day, it’s about bringing together lovers of Afrikaans music.”
Inspirasie Veelvoud, who was initially a duo before it became only Nico, shines after the release of “Kinders van die wind”, with three songs to his name.
Nico is grateful that his previous single, “Woorde in my dagboek”, also attracted attention and attracted dozens of listeners.
“There are two songs that are already ready to be released, I’m just waiting for the right time,” says Nico, an independent artist who works on his own expenses in the music industry.
Before Nico decided to release his version of “Children of the wind”, he tracked down the original publishers of the song, Inclince Music. This organization is still at the helm of Koos du Plessis’s portfolio and gave the Nico the green light to continue with its own issue.
“I trust that people will resonate with the song. It’s a refreshing take on a fantastic song.”
