What is Easter about and how does it affect you? Benescke Janse van Rensburg, author and radio announcer, shares a practical story that can help us to realize the essence of Easter anew.
God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son, so that those who believe in Him will not perish but have eternal life. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world could be saved through him (John 3: 16-17).
In her short, motivating message to readers, Benescke tells the story of Pieter the paper pilot. When Pieter dies in a plane crash and stands before God in heaven, he is confronted with some difficult questions.
When God asked him why he deserved to be in heaven, Pieter could list a number of things, but when God asked him about his sin, Pieter could not answer.
God then said to him: “Just remember Pieter, your good deeds do not cancel your sin.” Pieter then became more and more quiet, because he realized in that moment that sin is punished with death.
But because God loved Pieter, as well as every other person on earth, so much, He was willing to give His only Son so that you do not have to perish, but can inherit eternal life.
