The Federation of African Cultural Associations (FAK)’s digital magazine, Considerablewas made available on Thursday, April 6, in celebration of Foundation Day.
Despite the fact that this fancy magazine has not been published for a year, go Considerable now resumed and will now be issued bi-monthly on a “special” celebration day.
The first edition of Considerable for 2023 was released on February 21 on International Mother Language Day.
Considerable s name was initially ink and the first online publication appeared in August 2017 as a replacement for the FAK’s monthly newsletter.
“The name was initially ink, because we are used to magazines’ ink sticking to our fingers over the years, and have decided to keep the nostalgia alive by letting the Afrikaans language script’s ink flow on your smartphone, tablet or computer and enjoy it, any any place, any time – free. However, because the Woordfees’ festival newspaper INK called, we thought it good to use the name instead Considerable to change. Now we are so nimble as ’a flamingo, in rinkink us deliciously in Afrikaans,” said Chrisna Nel, editor of Considerable, said.
Considerable prides itself on publishing articles on the Afrikaans language, lifestyle, history and culture. Readers can expect great reading material on books, cultural activities and interesting bits of history. In this month’s issue there is, among other things, an article about the new VivA Publishers, idioms and sayings from shipping and the latest music releases.
“Each edition has a certain theme, which includes history themes. This month we celebrate Foundation Day, so our theme was pioneers, Free Citizens and Foundation Day. It was nice to go and see what idioms and sayings come from shipping, what types of ships the VOC had and what monuments and statues were erected in memory of the Pioneer period,” said Chrisna.
She is proud of that Considerable appears every two months on a remarkable day. According to her, this helps the magazine not “disappear” in someone’s e-mails or social media. “Like everyone remembers the holidays or important days, they will remember that Considerable appear.”
