With just over one week left before the closing date for applications for school placements in 2024, the DA in the Western Cape is reminding all parents to make sure their children’s applications are fully submitted.
Applications for the 2024 school year close on 14 April 2023 at 23:59.
“The Western Cape Department of Education has done everything in its power to help parents apply for the 2024 school year,” says Deidré Baartman, the DA’s Western Cape spokesperson on education. “Although the most convenient option for most parents remains the provincial department’s online platform, the department also still has a number of temporary stations available across the province. These stations help parents who do not have access to the internet, and trained officers are ready to submit the applications or answer any questions.”
The provincial department has also taken steps to ensure that all learners who apply on time will be accommodated.
The department invested R350 million this year in the continuation of its highly successful Rapid Build Program, which has so far already built more than 740 classrooms in the Western Cape. “The success of this program was seen in the construction of the Saxonsea Junior High School in Atlantis, which was completed in just 65 days. This project made sure that in 2023 there are not any learners in Atlantis who have not been placed.”
Baartman says that the faster the applications are processed, the faster the department can handle the placements and make sure that learners have a seamless transition to the next phase of their education.
