The former ANC Member of Parliament Sibusiso Kula (34) was granted bail following an appeal application.
Kula was released on Tuesday in the High Court in Mmabatho, North West, on bail of R50 000 after he was initially refused bail in the Orkney Magistrate’s Court in February.
According to Henry Mamothame, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Kula had to surrender his passport and his bail conditions include, among other things, that he must report to the nearest police station twice a day and that he must have no direct or indirect contact with his children not. He must appear in court again on April 17.
Kula was arrested in January in connection with the murder of his wife, Jennifer Kula, on November 27.
According to the police, it initially appeared that Jennifer had been killed during a robbery. She had a stab wound to the back, but this murder weapon was never found.
The case was reported by the medical facility where she was allegedly transported by the accused to receive medical assistance. He told the police that he was not at his home when the incident took place.
Through the police’s investigation, Kula was linked to the murder of his wife and charged with murder.
