The Toyota Corolla Cross recorded a stellar month of sales in March with 1,839 examples finding new owners, ranking the Cross as the best-selling SUV in South Africa.
The same manufacturer took home second place with its Fortuner, too, with the seven-seater’s recent facelift undoubtedly bolstering its uptick in popularity during the month and securing it 1,409 sales.
In fact, these Toyota siblings were the only vehicles in their segment to surpass 1,000 sales in March, as the next model in the line is the Haval Jolion which managed to move 940 units.
The Jolion’s biggest competitor, the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro, sits in fourth with 918 models rolling out of dealerships, marking a mere 22-car difference between the crossovers.
The margin between fifth and sixth place is even slimmer, as VW’s T-Cross made away with the former position by recording 850 sales, while Renault’s Kiger took the latter with 842.
The close rivalries continue through the Nissan Magnite in seventh achieving a performance of 682 units, only slightly above the Kia Sonet in eighth which grabbed 670 customers.
Just under 100 units away, the Haval H6 occupies ninth thanks to its 572 sales, while the locally-built BMW X3 closes out the top 10 with its 432-unit run.
In total, the combination of the 10 crossovers and SUVs’ individual sales performances result in 9,154 vehicles sold, in other words, just over 18% of all the new cars sold in the country in March.
