Phase 4 load shedding will take effect on Wednesday at 16:00 and will be in effect until Friday at 05:00. After that, varying phases of load shedding – up to and including phase 3 – will be introduced every day until Tuesday at 05:00.
Eskom says 16,644 MW of capacity on the power grid is currently unavailable due to breakdowns, while a further 6,400 MW is being given over to maintenance work.
A generating unit was put into operation at the Arnot power station in the last 24 hours, but another one has meanwhile been shut down at this power station for repairs.
More generating units were also taken off line for repairs at the Lethabo, Kriel and Tutuka power stations.
There are further delays in the restoration of generating units at the Kusile, Medupi and Tutuka power stations which are contributing to further capacity problems.
