South Africa’s Dean Burmester swelled his purse with R22.7 million on Sunday evening in Florida when he finished third together with the American Patrick Reed in the LIV golf tournament.
Burmester finished the tournament on 12 shots under par to finish three shots behind the winner, American Brooks Koepka.
Koepka finished at -15 and won his second tournament in the series. His winning check was a breathtaking R71 million.
Colombian Sebastián Muñoz was second at -14.
Charl Schwartzel finished 21st at -7, Branden Grace was 25th at -6 and Louis Oosthuizen 41st at -1.
In the team division, the South African Stinger team (-26) was fourth. The team division was won by Torque (-36), with Smash (-35) second and 4-Aces (-34) third.
* In Mookgophong’s Limpopo championship tournament, which was decided at the Euphoria estate over 54 holes and is part of the Sunshine Series, the young Ryan van Velzen (21) won his first tournament in the series.
Van Velzen scored 68 strokes in the final round and finished one stroke ahead of Jaco Prinsloo, Luca Fillipi and Daniel van Tonder. Jean-Paul Strydom was fifth on -10, with Niel Schietekat, Jbé Kruger and James-Hart du Preez on -9.
Prinsloo was on his way to his first victory when he scored a birdie on the 16th hole.
But on the last hole (number 5) he let his putt land in the rough and entered two strokes more than par on his scorecard.
* In the American PGA Series’ Texas Open decided in San Antonio, the Canadian Corey Connors won by one stroke with a tournament score of 273 (-15).
Connors, who also won the tournament in 2019, finished the final round in 68 strokes and finished one stroke ahead of rookie Samuel Evans (274, -14), who scored two eagles in his final round of 68 strokes.
The Americans Matt Kuchar and Sam Ryder were joint third at 13 shots under par.
South Africa’s MJ Daffue finished on 281 (-7), with Christiaan Bezuidenhout on 283, -5.
Garrick Higgo (294, +6) did poorly in the last tournament before the US Masters which starts this week at Augusta.
