John Steenhuisen was re-elected as the DA’s leader on Sunday during the Democratic Alliance’s (DA’s) federal congress in Midrand, Gauteng. This will be his second term as leader of the party.
The DA’s leadership positions were announced on Sunday at this congress, which is considered the DA’s “biggest congress in history”.
Steenhuisen has dr. Beaten Mpho Phalatse in the battle for the leadership position.
Before naming Steenhuisen as leader, the crowd gave a thunderous applause and shouted Steenhuisen’s name repeatedly.

Here are the other elected leaders:
Thomas Walters, Dr. Annelie Lotriet and Ashor Sarupen were elected as deputy chairmen of the federal council and Helen Zille as the chairperson of the federal council.
Dion George has been named the federal finance chairman.
Anton Bredall was chosen as the third deputy federal chairman, followed by Solly Malatsi as second deputy federal chairman and JP Smith as first deputy federal chairman.
Ivan Meyer was named the federal chairman.
