The Blitzbokke made it to the quarter-finals of the World Rugby sevens tournament in Hong Kong, but there is now a tough task waiting for the team.
The Blitzbokke, who competed in Group D alongside New Zealand, Ireland and Kenya, will play either Fiji or Argentina, who are the two leaders in Group A, in Sunday morning’s quarter-finals.
South Africa lost their second group match 7-12 against New Zealand early on Saturday morning after beating Ireland 14-7 on Friday.
The Blitzbokke won their third group match against Kenya 26-17 after leading 19-0 at half-time.
The South Africans were hot against Kenya in the first half. They strangled the Kenyans behind the advantage line and with individual ingenuity scored three great tries before half-time.
After the break, there was a slump in their game when Kenya scored three tries, but the Blitzbokke’s lead was too great.
The Blitzbokke’s Ryan Oosthuizen received a yellow card, which left a few holes in the defence.
The Blitzbokke, who have never been able to win the tournament in Hong Kong, have shown signs of improvement after coming off lukewarm in the last few tournaments.
