Marion Holm will soon be standing squarely back in her own shoes again on the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival’s (KKNK) stage in the one-woman play, Marion Holm.
Marion was recently together with Margit Meyer-Rödenbeck and Ilana Fourie on the boards North Primary Schoola comedy about three different teachers who plan a surprise farewell party for their outgoing principal and also wait together to hear who will have to fill his shoes next.
It was during the play of this hilarious piece that Marion realized just how much South Africans need to laugh. Therefore she has the original text of Marion Holm rewritten and adjusted to make it lighter.
“I want the piece to be an experience for people. The audience must be able to take courage, feel better and build up strength for tomorrow,” says Marion about the piece, which she wrote together with Chris Vorster. He also directs.
“The poster still has the original show’s photo on it, so it might look a little sad. However, I promise the show is anything but that!”
“It’s the little foxes like neighbours, dogs and people who destroy Marion’s vineyard on a daily basis. Marion doesn’t want to scream, she doesn’t go looking for grief or enjoying sadness… she sidesteps sin and naughty, she smiles meekly and laughs loudly… she fights bravely and avoids hurt… she shows her gray and is even ashamed of fame,” becomes the piece described by the KKNK’s website.
“She talks about everyday life in pictures with that typical Marion honesty and glory. Come and laugh together over the chaos and the attacks… immediately feel better about your own trifles as Marion lets loose with stories about mistakes, vegetarians and womanhood. You are welcome to arrive grumpy, that mood won’t last long.”
Marion Holm is on the boards in the Hoërskool Oudtshoorn’s school hall on April 5 at 18:00 and April 6 at 13:30.
