Another motion of no confidence in Tania Campbell, DA mayor of the Ekurhuleni metro, has been introduced. This is the second motion of no confidence in Campbell in less than six months.
The motion is currently being voted on during a council meeting.
Campbell was re-elected mayor in November last year after the first motion of no confidence in her passed in October.
It now seems that the latest motion against Campbell is likely to succeed as the ANC and EFF currently have a majority of votes in the council.
The DA’s Raymond Dhlamini was removed from his office as speaker of the metro last month and replaced by the EFF’s Ntshabiseng Tshivhenga.
The DA councilor Khetha Shandu also resigned as chief whip. Sandu has since been replaced by Jongizizwe Dlabathi of the ANC.
However, ActionSA indicated on Thursday morning that it will vote against the motion today.
This is the very party that left the multi-party coalition in the City of Ekurhuleni in November last year, due to concerns that service delivery would suffer under Campbell’s leadership.
Funzi Ngobeni, Gauteng spokesperson for ActionSA, says that although the party is still concerned about Campbell’s apparent inability to improve service delivery, “we believe that things will be significantly worse under an ANC-EFF coalition”.
Stay tuned to Rhewal for more details on the latest motion later.
