Volkswagen South Africa has listed the official pricing of the updated Polo Vivo GTwhich is now retailing for R332,800.
The GT is the flagship model of the company’s most affordable vehicle, with a greater performance ceiling than even the standard Polo.
It’s also one of seven new vehicles that VW is bringing to the country this year alongside exciting entries like the I’m greedy and Golf R.
What’s on offer
The range-topping hatchback is sticking with its 1.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine, in contrast to the 1.4 and 1.6-litre naturally aspirated units found on the other models bearing the Vivo name.
The 1.0-litre powerplant produces a total of 81kW and 200Nm, a 4kW and 47Nm improvement over the 1.6-litre Vivo’s 77kW and 153Nm.
Gear changes are handled by a six-speed manual transmission, which combined with a front-wheel-drive layout, results in a frugal fuel consumption of 4.6l/100km.
The automaker has unfortunately not provided an official 0-100km/h acceleration time, though it did list the car’s top speed of 196km/h.
The Vivo may be the cheapest model in the brand’s local catalogue, but that doesn’t mean the GT is light on features.
Most of the changes on this updated model are cosmetic, adding “Mirabeau” 17-inch alloy wheels and silver highlights to many of the exterior components like the electronically-adjustable side mirrors.
You’ll also receive tinted glass windows, rain-sensing wipers, light-sensing headlamps, a rear spoiler, a chrome exhaust, and GT badges and stickers.
The visual overhaul extends to the inside, which now has an Anthracite colour scheme. The rest of the interior is much the same with cloth sport seats, a leatherette gearshift, sports pedals, a leather steering wheel with aluminium inserts, two airbags, cruise control, manual air conditioning, and a 7-inch infotainment unit with six speakers and App-connect.
The hatch also has a boot with room for 289 litres, and comes with a space-saving spare wheel.
An optional parking package will then add a rearview camera with park distance control, while the lights package replaces the halogen headlights with LED ones, along with LED daytime running lights.
There’s also a black styling package that will throw in a black roof and 16-inch Portago alloy wheels.
Each purchase includes a 3-year/120,000km warranty. VW EasyDrive service and maintenance plans are also available for purchase.
