Eskom announced a short while ago that load shedding had to be increased from phase 2 to phase 3 shortly after 18:00.
The power supplier says the higher than expected demand for electricity forced it to change phase in the early evening.
This unexpected amendment follows only a few hours after Eskom announced that phase 2 would apply overnight before phase 3 would kick in at 05:00 on Thursday and would apply until 16:00, followed by phase 4 until 05:00 on Friday.
Phase 3 now takes longer, but always until Thursday 16:00.
“The previously determined load shedding schedules then continue,” says Eskom.
Rhewal earlier today report unplanned maintenance work led to a loss of 15,089 MW by this afternoon, while a further 7,147 MW could not be used due to planned maintenance work.
Stage 3 load shedding was implemented at 18:11 due to a higher than anticipated demand experienced tonight. This will continue until 16:00 when previously communicated load shedding schedules will resume.
