The cost of generating electricity from wind and solar power is becoming less and less. It is no secret that the generation costs of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar energy in South Africa are even lower than from coal these days. In addition, pres. In his recent state of the nation address as part of the energy crisis plan, Cyril Ramaphosa promised that businesses and households “will be unleashed to invest in roof-mounted solar energy”. It is a sure thing that households and businesses will be able to benefit from incentives for solar energy.
Sustainable private power generation, with the right structures in place, is the way forward for South Africans. Quality steel construction forms the backbone of any solar power system. Siteform, which has been making a name for itself since 2006 for its light steel structures, specializes in freestanding as well as adjustable solar power structures; P2000 tracks; custom structures and slopes on request. Siteform is also the trusted supplier of domestic and industrial systems that manufacture and erect any other type of structure.
Siteform Roofing began in 2006 as a profiling, or roll forming, company providing top quality sheet cladding of various profiles for the domestic and commercial market. Roll forming is the process by which roof sheets are formed. A spool plate is sent through a machine with rollers. These rollers then form the sheet into the chosen profile roof sheet (eg IBR, Victorian, and so on).
The company soon realized that there was a growing demand for new technology in the construction industry, and therefore acquired their first light steel profiler in 2007. Siteform uses CAD programs to produce pendants and wall panels with unmatched accuracy and precision. Today the company has 21 profiling machines; their own coil plate slot line; and an extremely capable staff group of more than 50 people.
Siteform believes in the importance of the right structure that will make the investment of private power generation worthwhile and ensure that the user follows the right methods. The advantages of Siteform’s structures include that they are simple to assemble, they are light and easily transportable, and the material is widely available and resistant to rust and all weather conditions. The structures also involve no maintenance.
Siteform strives to be the most reliable, honest and building effective company in the country. They are located in Bloemfontein and deliver nationwide, with or without installation.

A number of projects are already underway in the Northern Cape, among others, which include the development of Sasol’s new plant at Boogoo Bay and the Prieska Power Reserve of R9.7 billion which is part of the green hydrogen plan.
South Africa has already been investigating the potential of green hydrogen since 2007 through H2 South Africa, which is led by the department of science and innovation.
There is also the Hydrogen Valley Project in Limpopo, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
According to Jackwell Feris, an expert from the commercial law firm Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr in Sandton, this project is a beacon of hope in the transition to a low-carbon sustainable economy amid the crippling power outages in the country.
“Although it will not necessarily bring relief during load shedding, it can help indirectly. Any excess renewable energy produced for hydrogen production can be diverted to alleviate the power crisis.”
According to him, the project can give the economy a big boost.
An independent sustainability study recently showed that the project could add $4 billion to $9 billion to South Africa’s gross domestic product (GDP). This will not only be a boost for the economy, but can create sustainable economic growth in the long term through, among other things, job creation in the clean energy sector, says Feris.
“Green hydrogen has become part of many of our vocabulary in 2022 and as the year progresses, we realize that there will be a need for more knowledge about numerous legal and regulatory issues surrounding this rapidly growing industry.”
Green hydrogen will be used in various ways to replace fossil fuels such as oil and coal in the propulsion of vehicles, ships and aircraft.
