Music is a universal language that can touch hearts and bring encouragement if it reaches the right ears.
However, the trick is to package your message in such a way that as many people as possible hear it and share it with others.
If you have always wanted to write a song or perhaps want to hone this skill, now is your chance.
Rhewal and Akademia’s writing school, Skryfnet, boasts a brand new and exciting course aimed at anyone who wants to create meaningful music.
Write a song is a unique learning program that kicks off online on 2 May this year and concludes on 9 and 10 June with a two-day practical workshop in Pretoria.

The content of the course was developed by Clive Ridgway. The popular musician and songwriter Deon Meiring processed it and will present the course.
Meiring started writing his first songs in primary school. He thought it would help with his struggling romantic life. It didn’t, but he kept writing anyway. Today he is married and his songs are playing right across South Africa, with his established solo project and groups Glaskas and Dans Dans Lisa. This gifted musician’s music has been used in films and on TV. He has also mentored numerous up-and-coming songwriters to hone their skills. He also continues to write and regularly release new music.
During the four-week online session, Meiring will guide participants in converting their ideas into striking lyrics.
During the weekend’s contact session, all the new creations will be set to music and rounded off into a workable song that can be submitted for recording.
Participants will also have the chance to share their music with the rest of the group while hanging out around a nice hot coal stove. There will also be a prize for the best song.
