“… and I accepted the leaders from among your tribes, wise men, men of standing, and appointed them as heads over you, leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of ten: officers for your tribes.” – Deuteronomy 1:15 (AFR83)
All people are leaders, regardless of who and what they are, do and represent. In the same breath, all people are also followers and a good follower is a good leader and vice versa.
South Africa desperately needs enthusiastic and Spirit-filled leaders.
Sometimes people shy away from the thought that they are leaders in their own circle.
Leadership is influence and influence is positive or negative. Leadership is the common denominator and what you do with it is your responsibility.
In our country there are not many leaders who capture the imagination. People who see further and can articulate it. People who are willing to take risks, without being careless.
People who take into account that no one in this world can please everyone.
To have backbone is to reckon with this fact. Who wants to be everyone’s friend gets nowhere. It is inevitable that some people will differ from you, we are not duplicates of each other.
You can differ from others, but keep your respect. When people have lost their respect for you, you have an uphill battle. It is in exceptional cases that that trust is restored and you regain your position in society.
Being humble does not mean that you do not stand firm and firm.
Those who have heard of the Holy Spirit can say like Luther: “Here I stand, I cannot do otherwise”.
Leaders are not chameleons. Such people look where they receive the greatest applause and enjoy the most perks.
Prophet once sang Jesus’ children are not “pawpaws” not. People see right through you.
Sometimes I want to cry out in South Africa: “Will the real leaders please stand up!”.
Maybe you raise such a leader. Perhaps there is a Martin Luther King or, biblically speaking, Elijah in your home.
He or she sits at your dinner table, listens to your talk, watches your movements and example closely.
Take this responsibility seriously.
