The police in Polokwane, Limpopo are investigating a case of murder and conducting an inquest after an incident in which two doctors died.
A 35-year-old doctor from the Donald Frazer Hospital in Thohoyandou allegedly shot dead his 32-year-old wife, a doctor at the provincial hospital in Polokwane, on Monday. He then took his own life, says Brig. Motlafela Mojapelo, spokesperson for the police.
A family member of Vembe came across the couple’s bodies in the afternoon and called the police.
“According to the preliminary investigation, the couple had an exchange of words earlier in the day. The woman was shot dead in the afternoon before the man shot himself.”
The couple have been identified as Dr Tshimangadzo Muofhe and her husband Dr Mainfred Shikwambane.
The motive for the incident is not yet known, but domestic violence cannot be ruled out as a possibility.
