Under a cloudy sky, Theuns Jordaan’s life was celebrated anew.
Loftus Versfeld was crowded on Saturday 25 March with thousands of people who gathered to pay tribute to the late singer.
With every hit from Theuns’ pen and his iconic raspy voice, the audience sang along and often cried together as a final farewell was said to Theuns.

Steve Hofmeyr, Juanita du Plessis, Jay du Plessis, Ricus Nel, Bobby and Karlien van Jaarsveld, Lianie May, Bok van Blerk, Liezel Pieters, Kurt Darren, Jacques du Plessis, Ray Dylan, Danny Smoke and Dozi each have a Theuns Jordaan- hit song and shared heartwarming farewell messages with the audience.
“My son, my pride, my longing,” Willie Jordaan, Theuns Jordaan’s father, said at the beginning of the proceedings while addressing the audience.
Dr. Danie Langner, managing director of the FAK, presented a special award to Willie before the concert officially kicked off. This handover is related to the song board of the song, “Vreemde stad” which earlier in the week was erected in the FAK song garden.
Willie thanked the huge crowd that he could share his son with them and that Theuns’ life could be celebrated in this way.
Songs like “Blou train” (sung by Dozi), “Net voor die storm kom” (sung by Steve Hofmeyr) and “Vreemde stad” (sung by Bobby van Jaarsveld) flowed through the stadium.
Thanks to a video recording of Theuns that was taken during a concert at the time, Juanita du Plessis, who had been his duet partner for years, was able to sing with her musical friend for the last time. She counted several times as she sang “Heart full of dreams” and “Bring your heart”, turned her head away and wiped away a tear.
Other songs that were sung during the show include “Honger hart”, “Beautiful in Beaufort Wes”, “Bitterbessie dagbreek”, “Hanne”, “Waar was jy”, “Tjailatyd”, “Roeper”, “Loslappie”, ” Skip kick”, “Jealous kid”, “Namib rose”, “Face”, “Little bit of me”, “Don’t”, “Through the winters”, “Chess game”, “I call your name”, “Whose child are you”, “Sad for the rain”, “Looking for you”, “Your breath”, “Will you stay” and “By you”.
The concert ended with another recording of Theuns. His raspy voice echoed through the stadium with “Like blood” as thousands of people fell silent to listen to Theuns Jordaan for the last time.
