A homeless man was shot dead after apparently asking someone for a pizza.
“According to information, the police in White River in Mpumalanga heard a shot near the police station on March 25 at around 19:00,” says Brig. Selvy Mohlala, spokesperson for the police. “They went to investigate and came across a group of people in the road. A man was lying dead in the street.”
The man was shot in the chest and hand by a 39-year-old man who was also at the scene.
“The victim allegedly asked the man for pizza and he refused to give it to him. The victim then attacked the man with a chain. The suspect pulled out his firearm and shot him. The victim is believed to be in his late 40s.”
Paramedics were called to the scene and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rhewal reported earlier the incident took place outside Ocean Basket. According to eyewitnesses, the victim was involved in a heated argument with a man outside the restaurant.
Andre Spyridis, owner of the Ocean Basket in White River, confirmed that no customers or staff of the restaurant were involved in the incident. “Ocean Basket has absolutely nothing to do with the incident, it was just a coincidence that the tragedy happened outside the restaurant.”
Mohlala adds the suspect has been arrested on charges of murder. “The firearm and his firearms license were confiscated for further investigation. He is expected to appear in the White River Magistrate’s Court on Monday.”
