Botic van de Zandschulp settled for the first time in his career with a top five player when he beat Casper Ruud in Miami.
The final score was 3-6, 6-4 and 6-4 in the Dutchman’s favour.
“It was a very tough match and Casper had so many chances in the third set. But I felt the whole time that I could tame his serves and with the score at 5-4 I grabbed my chance with both hands,” said Van de Zandschulp.
Despite Ruud’s good performances in 2022 – where he played in the finals of the French and American Open – he is struggling with his consistency this year.
