The WGC-Dell Technologies’ World Hole Game Tournament, which is decided in Austin, Texas, is sending off on a high that the organizers dreamed of.
Two of the world’s top three players, Scottie Scheffler of America (ranked first) and Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland (third) are both through to the semi-finals.
Scheffler eliminated Australian Jason Day 2-1 in the quarter-finals and faces Sam Burns after eliminating Canada’s Mackenzie Hughes.
Scheffler was three strokes behind after six holes against Day, but the Aussie, who was struggling badly with allergies, had to call in a doctor to come and help.
This enabled Scheffler to wipe back.
McIIroy beat the American Xander Schauffele by one stroke on the 18th hole after he rolled in a putt from about three meters.
McIlroy plays in the semi-finals against Cameron Young (America).
McIlroy scored nine birdies in his quarter-final showdown against Australian Lucas Herbert and followed it up with six more against Schauffele, but both matches were clinched on the 18th hole.
