Japan’s Taro Daniel delivered a fiery performance when he beat Alexander Zverev 6-0 and 6-4 in the Miami Open.
Daniel is causing a few stirs these days – during the Indian Wells tournament he also settled with Italy’s Matteo Berrettini.
According to the Japanese, who is 97th in the ATP rankings, Zverev now struggled with his rhythm in the first set and he capitalized on it.
“As a tennis player, you sometimes do your best to ensure that the other player continues to struggle. Yes, it sounds bad to say something like that, but that’s how it is,” Daniel said after their duel.
“Sometimes for one reason or another you just start winning games. My plan is to walk off the course victorious on a more regular basis.”
Zverev is admittedly still on the road to recovery after injuring his ankle in the semi-final of the French Open against Rafael Nadal last year.
The former world number two advanced to the quarter-finals of the recent Indian Wells tournament where he fell to Daniil Medvedev.
