The cheapest Ford Ranger currently on sale in South Africa has a starting price of R464,200.
The next-generation bakkie first came to market at the end of 2022 and has already shot to the top of the charts as one of South Africa’s best-selling cars.
Since then, the double cab has been joined by its single and super-cab counterparts, as well as the high-performance halo model Raptor, meaning there are no less than 24 variations of Ranger-branded bakkies now patrolling the streets of South Africa.
What you get
The entry-level model in the blue oval’s family is the Ranger 2.0 SiT single cab XL, which is available as either a six-speed manual or an automatic, though the latter will bump the price to R477,800.
The two-door bakkie is rear-wheel drive and powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine capable of producing 125kW and 405Nm, with fuel consumption working out to 6.9l/100km for the manual and 7.5l/100km for the auto.
In the rear tray the bakkie can carry up to a 1,121kg load, and its towing capacity is rated for 3,500kg.
Owing to its 234mm ground clearance and clever under-bonnet packaging, the Ford is also capable of wading waters of up to 800mm deep, while the off-roading enthusiasts would like to know that it boasts an approach angle of 30.0 degrees, a break-over angle of 22.0 degrees, and a departure angle of 25.6 degrees.
Looking at its features, the XL comes standard with 16-inch silver alloy wheels, daytime running lights, cloth upholstery, manual air conditioning, an 8-inch digital driver screen, a 10.1-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rollover mitigation, trailer sway control, and hill-launch assist.
The automaker also offers optional packages which adds items like chrome finishes, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, cruise control, a steel undercarriage protector, fuel tank guard, and larger 17-inch alloys with all-terrain tyres.
Every Ford Ranger purchase comes with a 4-year/120,000km warranty with roadside assistance. Customers can also buy a service or maintenance plan for up to 8 years/165,000km.
