Galatasaray very close to two strong transfers
Dries Mertens and Lucas Torreira have traveled to Istanbul to sign new contracts with Galatasaray
Dries Mertens is expected to travel to Istanbul this evening to sign for Galatasaray as he does not want to sign for another Serie A side and play against Napoli.
The Belgian is out of contract after Napoli officials decided against extending his contract as he had a salary of €5 million per season.
Instead, they offered him a new contract worth 1.5 million euros, then increased it to 2.4 million but failed to convince him.
Juventus, Lazio and Inter were all interested in him, but after playing for Napoli for more than 9 years, he no longer wanted to play in Serie A, as it would be against his heart team.
According to some reports, Mertens has reached a personal agreement with Galatasaray for a one-year contract with the possibility of extension for another season.
Comments from Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis indicate the 35-year-old intends to retire next summer.
Mertens is expected to arrive in Istanbul this evening to undergo medical tests and sign a new contract.
He will be joined there by another star, Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira.
Torreira signed a contract as a new Gala player last night in Milan and now only the formalization is missing for him. /Express newspaper/
