De Ligt explains the reasons why he went to Bayern and left Juventus
Matthijs de Ligt has explained why he left Juventus for Bayern Munich this summer, feeling “it was time for a new challenge”
The 22-year-old Dutch defender joined the Bavarians last month in a €77 million deal, leaving Juventus after three seasons. De Ligt has been a regular starter in Turin and has worked closely with Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini as he continued his development.
Speaking to Kicker, De Ligt first explained why he wanted to leave Juventus this summer.
“I still had two years of contract with Juventus, I became a complete defender there, but I felt it was time for a new challenge, a new environment. In June, Bayern Munich contacted me and I was immediately interested in this offer”.
The 22-year-old Dutch defender commented on Bayern’s pressure and style of play.
“When you play for big clubs like Bayern Munich, you always have pressure. Their style of play suits me because it is a team that is oriented towards offensive football”.
During three years in Turin, De Ligt made 117 appearances in all competitions, helping the team win the Scudetto, a Coppa Italia, a Super Cup. He scored eight goals and made three assists for his former club.
Juventus have moved quickly to replace De Ligt, signing Torino star Gleison Bremer. The funds from this sale make them beat Inter for this defender. /Express newspaper/
