Rama and Meta controversy on State Security
Prime Minister Edi Rama declared today that he believes in the Information Authority on the former State Security Files “which says in writing that Iliri who left the Presidency a few days ago is the same Iliri who also came out of the Security file”.
Former President Ilir Meta and Prime Minister Rama started mutual comments on Facebook regarding the case opened several days ago by the File Authority on my associate of the State Security.
“Undoubtedly, I trust the troupe led by Genta Sula himself” – Mr. Rama noted in an article published on Facebook.
He emphasizes that this story is not up to politics to share, but only to the Information Authority on the Files of the former State Security.
“Politics should simply make available to that Authority the required legal tool, by voting in the Assembly the changes requested by the Authority itself. With those changes, the way is opened for a full investigation on the activity of the collaborator with the initials IM in the service of the State Security, as well as for others with other initials, who until today have hidden their identity, behind the privilege clause that the chaotic and political control of the 90s has created for them” – commented Mr. Rama.
Former president Ilir Meta has rejected the comments according to which he was an associate of the State Security in his student years, listing episodes that distance him from the details presented by the Information Authority on the files of the former State Security.
Mr. Meta published today on Facebook a cartoon from the State Security magazine of 1983, which according to him was created by Prime Minister Edi Rama.
“The Labor Party had Edi Rama as their favorite cartoonist of propaganda writings dedicated to Security and espionage. While the Socialist Party has Edi Rama, the Chairman of the gang of incinerators. We will focus on uncovering his galloping robberies and giving him the deserved punishment” – Mr. Meta notes on his Facebook page, alongside photos from the magazine.
Former president Meta has stated that “the Files Authority will bear legal responsibility for the falsifications and serious violations it made with the last letters addressed to the Assembly”.
The Files Authority proposed to the Assembly legal changes in the Electoral Code and in the Law on the right to information on State Security documents to open to full verification of his former associates, even if they previously received certificates of purity the picture.
The authority has illustrated this need for legal changes with the initials of 6 people, who it thinks are collaborators of the former State Security, among them IM, and yet they escaped verification and continued their careers during the years of democracy.
Immediately after this initiative of the Authority, the two largest parliamentary groups asked the Assembly for changes in the laws related to state secrets and State Security documents.
The parliamentary group of the Democratic Party demanded the declassification as state secrets of all files of the former State Security from 1944 to 1991.
While the socialists demanded that the Authority for Information on Former State Security Documents have the freedom to verify the purity of officials and candidates for deputies and mayors, whenever there are elections,
Socialist amendments to the Electoral Code require the verification of candidates for deputies and mayors in every parliamentary and local election.
The files of the infamous State Security, its crimes, leaders, pioneers and their collaborators are a story that has never been illuminated in Albania, during 31 years of transition and democracy, even though 8 prime ministers and 10 governments have been changed by socialist and democratic majorities. , who have replaced each other in power./VOA
