‘Illyricvm’, the first film where Illyrian will be spoken
The feature-length film titled ‘Illyricvm’ is said to be the first film that brings the ancient Illyrians and Illyrian language to the stage in a co-production between Kosovo, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy and Bosnia.
Conceived in 36 BC, the film will talk about the experience of a young Illyrian boy, at a time when the Illyrian principalities were under Roman occupation.
According to the synopsis published by the authors, the young man is called by a Roman division of the time to help them collect taxes from the locals – a task that was initially thought to be easy, but which later turns out to be full of unexpected challenges from the Illyrian tribes who show more resistance than expected by refusing to bow down and submit.
We see the life of the time and the archaic and brutal laws through the eyes of this young man, who was seen by the Romans as a ‘primitive barbarian’, but who gradually helps them realize that their two worlds are not so different from one another.
The director of the film is the Croatian Simon Bogojević Narath, the Albanian producer Fatmir Spahiu and the main actor, the Albanian from Kosovo, Ylber Bardhi.
The film was staged for the first time at the Film Festival in Croatia on July 21./lajmiifundit
