“Black list”, Basha agrees with Britain: The relationship between criminals and public figures stifles the voice of Albanian citizens
The former head of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, has reacted to the imposition of sanctions on politicians and individuals related to crime, by Great Britain.
In a post on Twitter, Basha writes that vote buying and misuse of public funds continues to be a major problem in Albanian politics, as he calls for electoral reforms.
“The support that some public figures receive from criminals in exchange for their corrupt acts drowns the voice of Albanian citizens. As the OSCE report on international monitoring of last year’s elections shows, vote buying and misuse of public funds continues to be a major problem in Albanian politics. As long as politicians are able to collaborate with criminals to buy, blackmail and threaten voters, Albanian democracy will remain fragile and incomplete. Now other changes are needed as well as electoral reforms”writes Basha.
