The agreement with the Serbian Church leaves Abazovic without the support of DPS, Gegaj: It threatened the state interests of Montenegro
The agreement with the Serbian church caused Milo Djukanovic’s DPS to withdraw its support from Dritan Abazovic, and for the party’s Nikola Gegaj in Montenegro, it is not yet known what path this next political crisis will take in the neighboring country.
In a direct connection with the show “Balkan” on ABC, Gegaj said that DPS has assessed that the interests of the Church of Montenegro have been threatened by the agreement made with the Serbian Church. According to him, the current government has changed its initial course, which was initially agreed upon.
“Once again, Montenegro is faced with problems of a political nature, like those of recent years. In DPS they think that the agreement with the Serbian Church threatened the interests of the Church of Montenegro. The government has changed its initial course that we agreed to. They abandon the priority task of fulfilling obligations from the European integration agenda and with an irresponsible haste, without consulting the professional and competent public, made an agreement with the Serbian church, causing incalculable damage to the state interests of Montenegro.”
Also, Nikollë Gegaj shows that there are three scenarios that can happen in the future in Montenegro until the situation is resolved.
“The first is about distrusting this government and getting to the point of forming another government that will be supported again by Abazovic’s former allies, the pro-Serbian and pro-Russian option, together with the Montenegrin democrats who lead them former chief parliamentarian. The second scenario is that the government is supported without the formation of a new government by these political entities. Since they have a common denominator, what connects them is the Serbian Orthodox Church. The third possible scenario is to go to early elections, together with the local ones, on October 23.”
While admitting that there have been negotiations between Djukanovic and Abazovic and most likely there will be, Gegaj admitted that all three options are on the table, but which one will be chosen cannot be predicted.
