Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has described Boris Johnson as a true friend of the country, which he says supported him during the Russian invasion.
“Johnson was among the first world leaders who not only unequivocally condemned Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, but also took a series of decisive decisions to help Ukraine defend itself and ultimately win this war in the future,” Kuleba told Reuters. .
Johnson has visited the Ukrainian capital of Kiev twice since the war began in late February.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office also thanked Johnson for protecting Ukraine’s interests.
“We all heard this news (of Johnson’s resignation) with sadness, not only me, but also the whole Ukrainian society, which sympathizes with you,” Zelenskyy’s office said in a statement after the two leaders spoke by phone.
“We have no doubt that the support of Great Britain will be maintained, but your leadership and personal charisma made it special,” the statement added.
