They listed the Monastery of Deçan as an endangered monument, Europa Nostra lands itself in Kosovo
A delegation of the European organization “Europa Nostra” that deals with the protection of cultural and natural heritage is staying in Kosovo. They visited the Monastery of Deçan, which they included in the list of the 7 most endangered monuments in Europe for 2021.
The delegation of Europa Nostra was received yesterday by Abbot Sava Janjic, who served them dinner in the premises of the religious facility, Rhewal reports.
Abbot Janjic has published some photos of the visit of the delegation of the European organization to the monastery.
“I am honored to welcome the delegation of Europa Nostra today to the Monastery of Deçan. The protection of common heritage in Europe is essential for the future of our continent. By visiting places of different traditions, Europa Nostra will emphasize the need to protect the heritage in Kosovo. The Europa Nostra delegation that is spending these days on a study visit to Kosovo consists of outstanding experts who are very committed to the protection and preservation of cultural heritage in Europe and work on many projects in this field. Honored to welcome them”, says Janjic’s ‘tweet’ on Twitter.

The inclusion of the Deçan Monastery in the 7 most endangered monuments in Europe has been opposed by the institutions of Kosovo.
Prime Minister Kurti and President Osmani have sent a letter to the organization “Europa Nostra”, which deals with the protection of cultural heritage.
In this letter, the head of government and the head of state have argued why the Monastery of Deçan does not meet the criteria to enter the “Seven Most Endangered Monuments” program.
The Minister of Culture, Hajrullah Çeku, also reacted to the inclusion of the Deçan Monastery in the list of “7 Most Dangerous Places in Europe”.
The KFOR mission in Kosovo in April of last year, in a response to Express, stated that they have not recorded any significant incident against the Deçan Monastery in the last 10 years.
“We have not recorded any significant security incidents in the last ten years against the Monastery of Deçan. KFOR will continue to operate in order to guarantee a peaceful coexistence in that area. All objects of religious and cultural heritage throughout Kosovo must be respected and preserved. We continue to cooperate closely with the Kosovo Police and the EU mission for the rule of law, EULEX, in accordance with the principle of the first, second and third responders”, said KFOR’s response to the Express newspaper.
