Anti-corruption: If it is proven that Shkreta has kept cash from last year, there are violations
The MP from the Vetëvendosje Movement, Mirsad Shkreta, claims that 50 thousand euros in cash were stolen from him in his apartment in Prishtina, before these were not declared to the Anti-Corruption Agency. But, will he be investigated by the Anti-Corruption for non-declaration of assets?
In a written response to the Express newspaper, the Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency, Yll Buleshkaj, said that the report submitted through the asset form by MP Shkreta, covers the period from January 1 to December 31, 2021, while the event occurred in June. .
However, Buleshkaj says that if it is proven that the money was kept cash in the apartment from last year and was not reported, it could be considered a violation.
“Initially, I am very sorry that a senior Kosovo official was a victim of crime. Second, the report submitted through the asset form by the MP, covers the time period 1 January-31 December 2021, while the event you mentioned occurred at the end of June 2022, consequently the comparison may not be fair. “Reporting on assets, revenues, etc. is done in 2023. Third, if it can be proven that the money has been held in cash since last year, and have not been reported, it can be considered a violation,” Buleshkaj told the Express newspaper on Sunday. .
Otherwise, the Basic Prosecution of Prishtina has launched investigations into the criminal offense of “aggravated theft”.
We would like to inform you that in the case of “Aggravated Theft” all necessary investigative actions are being taken in order to shed light on all the circumstances of this criminal case. “Since the case is under investigation, currently we can not provide additional information, so you will be notified of other developments in time”, the prosecution confirmed for the Express newspaper.
In addition to the theft of 50 thousand euros, according to media reports, the VV MP was also robbed of gold jewelry worth 10 thousand euros. As it is reported, the deputy stated to the police that the money did not belong to him, but also to the baxhanak.
Regarding this event, MP Mirsad Shkreta himself reacted today.
He wrote on Facebook that he has fulfilled the obligations under the law regarding the declaration of assets and will do the same in March 2023.
He further called on citizens and the media to cooperate as much as possible with the judiciary in order to catch the perpetrators.
“Dear friends and citizens!
On 23.06.2022 my family fell prey to a theft and robbery in our apartment. As the law states, we notified the police and the judiciary and, in accordance with their requests, provided cooperation without making public statements, so that these bodies can do their job independently in order to catch the perpetrators as soon as possible. But the same was not respected by some circles, who, in addition to unjustly attacking and misinforming us, are taking care not to talk about theft and the aggravated act of theft and endangering the safety of a family with two small children.
My professional journey is not just in the realm of politics. To the general public, we are a couple of doctors who have been practicing this profession with honor and dignity for more than 20 years and enjoy the respect of all patients, students, colleagues and their acquaintances. Only that 1 year and a half I have taken the position of deputy, I have never held executive positions and I have fulfilled by law all my obligations regarding the declaration of assets. I will do the same for this year’s declaration in March 2023, as the law says. Therefore, the tendency to associate everything with this post is malicious and deeply unjust, especially when it also relates to my political views and statements.
I invite all friends and citizens, but also the media, to be as cooperative as possible with the judiciary, as we did when we immediately initiated the case, so that the perpetrators are caught and get the right answer, and so that our children can “They grow up safe in a state of law,” he wrote.
